NRC's Technical Councils

NRC's technical councils provide an opportunity for members with common interests and concerns to come together and network. Councils initiate projects to support the work of their members and are key conduits for the delivery of NRC programs & services.

College and University Recycling Council (CURC)
CURC is a network of campus-based recycling professionals who facilitate information exchange on operating recycling and waste reduction programs at North American institutions of higher learning. CURC also helps to support creating linkages with the academic resources on campuses. Among CURC's benefits are: CURC WEB, college and university recycling information and opportunities for benchmarking other schools, member-only electronic resources for sharing information, getting feedback, and finding a product or service vendor. Regional workshops, which bring the expertise of CURC members to schools that could not otherwise attend a national conference. Information toolkits and white papers to help analyze and resolve problem issues on your campus.

Community Recyclers Council (CRC)
The Community Recyclers Council mission is to provide a network of NRC members that will work to address the needs of smaller community-based rural and municipal recycling programs, as well as mission-driven non-profits and other grassroots, community-based recycling efforts. The new Council will be guided by and work to further the goals and objectives its members. A new website for the council will be available in the coming months.

Recycling Organization Council (ROC)
The Recycling Organization Council provides recycling organizations a forum to benefit from information sharing, group deliberation of common issues, mutual support and assistance. The Council fosters the activation of its members around best recycling practices and proven successful organizational methods. The ROC serves as the voice of the NRC's affiliated state and regional recycling organizations, presenting identified needs, issues and priorities. The Council acts as the liaison to the National Recycling Coalition's Board of Directors and staff, providing representation and two-way communication with the NRC for recycling organizations and their members.

Industrial Resources Council (IRC)
The Industrial Resources Council is a market development cooperative, formed to leverage resources necessary to address industrial recycling issues that affect multiple industry sectors.  Market development challenges include overcoming regulatory, educational, economic and engineering barriers in place that made utilizing the waste and byproduct materials generated in society. As the disposal costs increase across the country, there is increased pressure – and financial incentive – to recover and recycle industrial byproducts for use in secondary applications.  IRC members include: Construction Materials Recycling AssociationFoundry Industry Recycling Starts Today, National Council for Air & Stream, National Slag Association, Rubber Manufacturers Association.
